Ida and Cash

We recently had a great Senior Portrait session with Ida and her horse Cash. We shot on location at the stables where Cash lives and trains. As you can see in the images below, both Ida and Cash were very comfortable in their environment, enjoying each others company, being themselves in front of the camera. This is our goal at every photo session we do.

Shelda And Her Boys

Shelda and her sons are longtime clients of Clever Creek Studio. This was their fourth session with us. We met near the Missouri River Bridge in Jefferson City early on a recent Saturday and captured some great moments in the early morning light.

Alex and Waylon

Last week we photographed Alex and Waylon near the Missouri River Bottoms. After a long drought, Missouri finally got some rain which “greened things up” nicely and made for a nice backdrop to photograph the couple. We met after work and mainly used the natural light of the setting sun with occasional fill flash when needed. As is nearly always the case, the couple chose the location for the session. At Clever Creek Studio, we prefer it that way.

What A Difference A Year Makes…

This time last year Craig was working state emergency duty for the Missouri National Guard as the Missouri River flooded in the northwest corner of the state. Many Soldiers and Airmen were activated for state emergency duty last year to deal with the blizzard aftermath, the Joplin tornado and flooding in several areas of the state.

This year it’s a lot drier which is a nice reprieve for all those hard working Soldiers and Airmen. We visited the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area, located directly adjacent to the Missouri River just south of Columbia, yesterday evening to see  the local fauna and flora. The water levels are receding quickly…

One of the “pools” at the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area whose waters are partially fed by the Missouri River. The water level is down considerably.

There was plenty to see but, maybe its a little too dry…keeping our fingers crossed for rain to come soon.

Shallow water with “rocks” that are actually dead fish

Another “pool” at the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area. What may appear to be rocks in the water are actually dead fish. The water is too shallow for them to survive.

Garden Of Love

We spent lots of time and effort working in our garden this Spring and it is starting to pay off. It’s a lot like our relationship, really. We bring our strengths to bear and help each other with our weaknesses. The result is something that feeds us; heart, body and soul. In the case of gardening, Monica is the brains and I am the back. She chose the flowers and plants and where they would go and I moved the heavy stuff where it needed to go. We have both tended to the garden almost daily. Here are some of the results:

The thing about a garden is, it’s never done. There are always details to tend to and improvements to be made to keep the garden healthy. Just like our relationship. We feel blessed to have our garden of love. We hope you enjoyed our efforts in the garden and with the camera.

Magic Monday through Rose-Colored Glasses

Every Monday, we struggle a little in adopting the proper attitude to energize and set the tone for the week.  One side pulls for energetic optimism while the other side clearly indicates the need for a catnap. Mondays are like budding plants, full of possibility and potential beauty.

In our experience, it has been much more difficult to dread the week ahead.  Monday is most often the day we spend the morning getting caught up in the studio and the afternoon/sunset out on location shoots, finding little bursts of beauty along the way. This Monday, we are a little sore from digging in new garden beds that will serve as wonderful backdrops for portrait sittings.

What about you?  Are you hanging on to the weekend of yesterday, or forging ahead keeping your sense of humor, to see what this week will bring? Here’s hoping that Prof. Harold Hill was right all along about the “think” method.  We “think” this week will be the best ever!

The images above were taken in Columbia, MO during a Monday location hunt.  May they brighten your week as all of your positive remarks, shares, follows and likes have brightened ours.

Posts and Stones on the Miles of Life

This weekend we have been asked to shoot portraits at the 2012 Missouri Army National Guard Annual Conference banquet.  As recently retired military, we are proud to support and participate in functions such as this. Images forthcoming.

We are also sending out congratulations and “Thank Yous” to our own USMC PFC Curtis Bobka, who today graduated from his MOS School at Ft. Benning, GA.  He is on his way to his duty station.  We couldn’t be prouder.

Thank you to all those currently serving in the military, veterans, and their families for your service.

Working for the Weekend

Thursday has us aching for a weekend on the beach, sunsets included.  Peace.  Romance.  Serenity.

This image was taken at Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, CA.  It is a popular destination for residents and tourists alike.

We won’t be making it to the beach, as we were asked to a fun photo shoot in Springfield this weekend.  Stay tuned.

An Oz Kind of Day

In our part of the country (Mid-Missouri), winter and spring have been fairly mild. But last week, we had several days of hard rain, giving us a bit of cabin fever and itchy shutter fingers.  At the first sign of sunshine, we took a drive a few miles from our home to see what, if anything, the rains had brought.  Creeks were pregnant with water. The water from the fields in the glade ran off into a creek that travels to the nearby Missouri River.

It was like in the movie “The Wizard of Oz” when things are clear in black and white.

But then BURST into dazzling color.  The sky was never bluer.

The grass was never greener.

And even though we were warned to “Keep Out”, we were drawn to the bright colors of the day.

Funny what a little rain can do.

We love photographing after a good rain. Everything seems so vibrant and peaceful.  A fresh start. Do you like the rain?
